Accessible parking will be reserved on the street (Eastern Avenue) by the ramp. \nCommunity Partners\nAfter a period of service in the Air Force as a medic\, Marty McMahon (Lyndon’s event host) returned to academic studies in literature\, language\, and rhetoric\, receiving an MA and an MLitt from Middlebury College. Marty has worked as a high school teacher\, a chimney sweep\, and a field technician in alternative energy (including working as a contractor and crew chief on the Navy TACTS program\, installing wind and solar systems on their off-shore platforms). He has taught at CCV\, Vermont College\, and Norwich (supervising cadets while teaching Military Literature to Special Ops personnel in their Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis online program). For five years at CCV he served as a Veteran & Military Resource Advisor while also facilitating the Veteran Reading Group for the Vermont Humanities Council. \nFor nearly 50 years\, Catamount Arts has worked to make the arts a fundamental part of community life. Catamount Arts offers international\, independent\, and classic films; exhibitions by local and regional artists; live music\, dance\, and theater performances; summer camps and arts education programming for children and adults; a regional box office for more than 40 organizations; a gathering space for community events; and much more! Take Rte 15 East approximately 1 mile to the Saint Michael’s College – South Entrance on left. \nFrom North of Burlington: Take Interstate 89 South to Exit 16. Take right off exit\, follow Route 7 south to junction of Route 15 (center of Winooski) Follow Route 15 East approximately 1 mile to the Saint Michael’s College – South Entrance on left. \nFrom South of  Burlington: Take Interstate 89 North to Exit 15. Bear right off of Exit 15\, Interstate 89 and get into left lane. At the first set of lights\, take a left into the parking lot. \nShortly after you enter Saint Michael’s Campus\, McCarthy Arts Center will be on your right. \nParking: Free parking will be available for the event. There’s a large lot to the west (left) of McCarthy Arts Center\, and additional parking further west along Campus Road\, surrounding the Tarrant and Ross Sports Centers\, as well as elsewhere on campus. You do not need a permit to park on Saint Michael’s campus during this event. Please consider arriving early to give yourself time to find a space: There should be plenty of parking on campus\, but we do overlap a little with the SMC late-morning mass\, so it’s good to allow for some extra time. Please consider parking further away if that’s comfortable for you\, so that spaces closer to the Arts Center will be available for those with mobility concerns. \nCommunity Partners\nJon Turner will host the event. Jon served with the Marines between 2003-2007 and deployed to Haiti\, Fallujah and Ramadi\, Iraq. Since his discharge\, he has traveled extensively and worked with various communities to assist in the veteran reintegration process from paper-making to outdoor recreation and farming. In 2014\, Jon began to utilize the agricultural landscape as a classroom for community members interested in resilient food systems through service learning projects\, internships\, and site visits for K-12\, college students\, and military veterans. He joined the army in 2003 and served two tours in Iraq as a combat medic. He graduated from Castleton with a degree in criminal justice before joining Community College of Vermont as CCV’s Associate Director of Veterans and Military Services. He now works as a general contractor serving Rutland County. Additionally\, he serves as a mentor for The Warrior Connection\, and is transitioning to a facilitator role. \nThe Godnick Adult Center (our venue sponsor) provides a welcoming space for adults to socialize\, learn\, travel\, eat\, and exercise. As a part of the Rutland Recreation and Parks Department\, the Godnick Adult Center strives to bring its community quality and beneficial programs\, activities\, trips\, and events. Located at 1 Deer Street in Rutland\, the Godnick Adult Center is open to both Rutland City residents as well as non-residents\, some programs or activities have a fee\, while some are suggested donation or free. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, October 24th\, 2024\, at Holley Hall in Bristol\, veterans were invited to speak about what their service means to them\, and non-veterans were encouraged to attend and listen. This event was non-political\, and all perspectives were/are valued. \nThank you so much to all of our speakers\, attendees\, and community partners at this wonderful event. We had about forty attendees total\, and eight speakers\, including many who chose to speak at the event itself. Veterans from different eras and branches shared a range of experiences with the community. \n  \nCommunity Partners \nJon Turner will host the event. Jon served with the Marines between 2003-2007 and deployed to Haiti\, Fallujah and Ramadi\, Iraq. Since his discharge\, he has traveled extensively and worked with various communities to assist in the veteran reintegration process from paper-making to outdoor recreation and farming. He has taught at CCV\, Vermont College\, and Norwich (supervising cadets while teaching Military Literature to Special Ops personnel in their Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis online program). DESCRIPTION:Veterans are invited to speak\, unscripted\, about what their service means to them\, and the whole community is encouraged to attend\, to listen\, and to learn. This event\, inspired by author Sebastian Junger\, aims to establish a greater understanding between local veterans and the friends and neighbors they fought for. \nRegister Now  \nIn the tradition of warrior storytelling\, veterans are invited to describe the pride\, grief\, rage\, or quiet appreciation of life that the war bestowed upon them – to share a story\, summary of service\, message\, letter home\, excerpt from a war journal\, or even the story behind a photograph. \nBased on feedback from both speakers and attendees\, this year there will be an optional question-and-answer period at the end of the event (only in Colchester). \nJon Turner will host the event. Jon served three deployments with the Marines between 2003-2007. Since his discharge\, he has traveled extensively and worked with various communities to assist in the veteran reintegration process from paper-making to outdoor recreation. In 2014\, Jon began to utilize the agricultural landscape as a classroom for community members interested in resilient food systems through service learning projects\, internships\, and site visits\, for K-12\, college students\, and military veterans. Jon is the founding and former chair of the VT state chapter of the Farmer Veteran Coalition\, recipient of the National Farm to School Innovations Grant\, Sierra Club Military Outings Leader\, and currently operates Wild Roots Farm Vermont in Bristol. \nThe venue is sponsored by Saint Michael’s College Veteran and Military Community Services and Student Veteran Association.
