Civil Air Patrol Rutland Composite Squadron

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a non-profit organization and an auxiliary of the United States Airforce.  Their mission is to support America’s communities with emergency response, diverse aviation and ground services, youth development and promotion of air, space and cyber power through aerospace education. 

Adult members of CAP are involved in aerospace education including flying cadets through an orientation flight program.  They are also involved in emergency services on the ground and in the air including disaster relief, aerial photography and surveillance, missing aircraft, and missing person searches. Adult members are also involved in mentoring young adults in our cadet program. Many adult members served in the military and find volunteering with CAP allows them to continue to serve their state and nation as well as help shape future leaders in the cadet program.

CAP’s cadet program is a unique opportunity for young people.  The program is led by cadets, so leadership and mentorship are key components.  Cadets can explore their interests in aviation with stem activities, orientation flights in both powered and glider aircraft, and special activities.  Cadets who want to earn their pilot’s license also have some special opportunities in the program and cadets who go into the military also have some special benefits and opportunities.  Cadets train in emergency services and disaster, military drill and ceremonies, and participate in physical fitness training. The program for cadets is open to youth 12-18.
